I was recently plunged into tech darkness recently when I accidentally left my iPad over in Bulgaria. Although it was only for a week I have become quite accustomed to wasting my time browsing news sites, playing games or "facebooking" with a screen sized well enough to prevent me from having to squint. I didn't just cave in though, I just decided to try and get the most out of my 700t and see if it could fill the void with what is currently available to Windows 8.
Although I was impressed with how well it did do (when using a WiFi connection), there are still loads of apps which are just missing on Windows 8 at current. For example, Flipboard, Facebook (Official App, not the Peoples App), Pinterest (Although the website isn't all that bad), Scrabble and various others which I use frequently. That wasn't my main gripe though, and it's not a fault of Windows 8, it's a fault of version of slate that I purchased as it lacks 3G and GPS, 2 things which make these devices really usable for every day use away from the office or home. I'm even writing this blog post "offline", using Blogsy on the iPad with my 700t keyboard, although I'm sure there are desktop apps I could of used in Windows, I can't really compare that in this context.
So I decided to do a spot of Googling and came across a forum where people were upgrading their 700t in order to fit in a larger hard drive, and also a WiFi, 3G and GPS receiver, woot! Although the process looks quite scary, take a look for yourselves...
So far I've not read any posts from anyone stating that they have successfully installed the additional 2 aerials in the device in order to get it in fully working order, but I have read that the upgrade of the WiFi and SSD went swimmingly. Definitely something worth considering as that would make the device pretty attractive when Windows 8 is officially released just due to the sheer horse power of the device!
